Open-Source Licences
Draft — 31 July 2026
DRAFT — for review, not yet published
Safpic is built with the help of open-source software. We're grateful to the people and projects behind it. The main libraries we use are listed below, with their licences.
Licensed under the Apache License 2.0
- AndroidX libraries — AppCompat, Core-KTX, Fragment, Lifecycle, ConstraintLayout, CameraX, Biometric, ExifInterface (© The Android Open Source Project)
- Material Components for Android (© Google)
- Kotlin Coroutines (© JetBrains)
- Coil image loading (© Coil Contributors)
- ZXing barcode/QR library (© ZXing Authors)
- Google MediaPipe Tasks — Vision (© Google)
- Google ML Kit — Barcode Scanning (© Google)
Google Firebase & Google Play services
Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics) and Google Play services (Sign-In) are © Google, used under their respective licences and terms of service.
libsignal
End-to-end encryption is provided by libsignal (© Signal Messenger, LLC), which is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0).
Before launch — to be confirmed: a lawyer should confirm how the AGPL-3.0 terms of libsignal apply to a distributed mobile app, and whether any additional notice or source-offer obligations need to be met.
Full attribution
Before launch — to be completed: this is the list of the main direct libraries. The definitive, complete attribution — including transitive dependencies and the full text of each licence — should be generated automatically from the build (there are standard tools for this) and published here before Safpic is offered to the public.
